Writing Fast and Focused

My new romance novel that I published a few weeks ago is selling well.

With little (or really, no) marketing, sales are steady. It is also being borrowed often through the Kindle Lending Library. So I have to say I'm pleased with how things are going although I hope to market it properly soon.

It is a great book though and it has a twist in tail ending. It looks like the usual "will they get together or won't they" story, but the ending is a great surprise and that could be why sales and lending are up.

You can download your own copy of Stand By Me from the Amazon Kindle Store.

What I loved about writing this novel is that it was fast to do. I just wrote an outline and starting writing. Every time I sat down to write more of my novel, the time simply flew by and I could write thousands of words in one sitting.

And I think there was a reason that I found it so easy to do (and an experience I intend to repeat soon as well).

Turning Off The Blog Comments

I've just made changes to the way comments are allowed on this blog.

The change is that only those with a Google account can comment.

Why?

Because I'm sick of spam. I'm sick of 'anonymous' commenters leaving spam comments with links to their spammy websites.

I'm sorry if this change inconveniences anyone but I just had to do something.

Ahhhh!!!

I don't know why they waste their time. I mean, does it really work? I doubt it.

Instead they should spend their time writing something useful that people want to read and that earns them money legitimately. I'm sure it would work better.

Writing isn't hard if you know what you're writing about.

It's even possible to make living writing your life history or writing about something that happened to you if it helps other people.

And there are products out there to help you get started writing your own personal story.

Memoirs & Personal Essays Premium Collection

Turn your personal story into a bestseller!

This collection walks you through every phase of the memoir-writing process from uncovering memories to marketing your story to the masses.

Gain insight from top authors and agents in the industry on story structure, editing techniques, pitching to agents and publishing a commercially viable memoir within a competitive market.

Whether you are just beginning the process or are a published writer, these resources will carefully guide you to your goal of writing and publishing a piece of your personal history.

Still Haven't Got My Blog Emails Right

Image courtesy of Stuart Miles, FreeDigitalPhotos.net
If you're a subscriber to this blog then you'll have noticed that I'm having a bit of trouble getting my blog posts emailed correctly.

First of all, a few weeks ago, the same blog post was sent multiple times. Then none were sent at all and then they all got sent at once.

So if you're reading this and you are someone who received my crazy emails, I do apologise.

Yet at the same time it made me laugh at myself. What the hell was I doing? Why couldn't I get it right?

But now I think I've got it all under control. I just hope I didn't need to put the emphasis on the word "think."

As I've said before, I'm not a really "techy" person and sometimes working online simply baffles me.

But I keep moving forward and making progress.

And speaking of "techy" (or not) don't forget that my course on web page design and how to make money online is still reduced by a massive 90% of the price. That's $30 down to $3.

The Complete Online Course

It's an old course but a big one divided into 3 huge modules.

Write Web Page Content,

Create All Your Own Websites

Earn Income From Every Website You Create.

And it's for the none-techies like me who just want to design websites and make money online but don't know how.

So if you've never created your own websites before but want to know how then this will teach you exactly how to do it and guide you all the way from deciding what you want to set up a website about to creating it and publishing it online.

And even if you're already online and you have a simple, free blog, like this one, this course can show you how to tweak and change the html code to get your blog exactly the way you want it.

These Can Really Help to Kick Your Writing Into High Gear

If you're serious about writing professionally, following your writing passion and earning a living as a writer then you should already be there.

If you aren't then it's time to do something about about it and I mean do something really radical that you haven't tried before.

Remember what Einstein said about insanity? He said it's doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

If you want to write but you're not doing so or you are writing but not doing the writing you want to do OR not doing enough of it or making enough money, try any of these resources to help you get going to where you want to be:

Do You Know How Much Amazon Can Do?

As writers, we're all aware that Amazon sells books and ebooks.

But are you aware of how many other products they sell?

Knowing this is good for two reasons.

Firstly, it's oh so handy if you need to buy something because many times Amazon sells items cheaper than other companies.

Secondly, it's handy if you have a website and you're an Amazon affiliate because it gives you more advertising opportunities.

Amazon now not only sell more products than ever before but they also have more ways that you can make money.

For instance, did you know that Amazon has a trade-in offer for used books that you can sell back to them?

And did you know that they have a baby registry service and a wedding registry service or that they now sell their own smart phones?

All Marketers are Liars

I'm currently enjoying reading the latest book I purchased, "All Marketers are Liars" by Seth Godin. ISBN 13: 9781591845331.

And I'll say one thing for it, it certainly is an eye-opener into how successful marketers think and work.

I only received the book last week (paperback) and have been so busy with other things that I'm only 3 chapters into it, but already I'm learning so much, which is important because if you sell anything (including being a writer who sells books) you're a marketer whether you like it or not.

I bought "All Marketers are Liars" from The Book Depository (which is owned by Amazon) and they give great discounts on all their books plus free worldwide shipping. They also display book prices in your own currency.

So if you want to buy a book, don't pay retail price and pay for shipping. Get it straight from The Book Depository. It will be cheaper and won't cost you extra for packaging and posting.

Here is the official description of "All Marketers are Liars" straight from The Book Depository:

Seth Godin's three essential questions for every marketer: "What's your story?" "Will the people who need to hear this story believe it?" "Is it true?"

All marketers tell stories. And if they do it right, we believe them. We believe that wine tastes better in a $20 glass than a $1 glass.

We believe that an $80,000 Porsche is vastly superior to a $36,000 Volkswagen that's virtually the same car.

We believe that $125 sneakers make our feet feel better--and look cooler--than a $25 brand. And believing it makes it true.

As Seth Godin showed in this controversial book, great marketers don't talk about features or even benefits. Instead, they tell a story--a story we "want" to believe, whether it's factual or not.

In a world where most people have an infinite number of choices and no time to make them, every organization is a marketer, and all marketing is about telling stories.

Marketers succeed when they tell us a story that fits our worldview, a story that we intuitively embrace and then share with our friends.

Think of the Dyson vacuum cleaner, or Fiji water, or the iPod.

But beware: If your stories are inauthentic, you cross the line from fib to fraud. Marketers fail when they are selfish and scurrilous, when they abuse the tools of their trade and make the world worse.

That's a lesson learned the hard way by telemarketers, cigarette companies, and sleazy politicians. But for the rest of us, it's time to embrace the power of the story.

As Godin writes, "Stories make it easier to understand the world. Stories are the only way we know to spread an idea. Marketers didn't invent storytelling. They just perfected it."

Build Your Author Platform - Limited Offer

Have you written a book?

Do you want to know how to get your book accepted by literary agents and publishers?

The problem is that you know your work is good and you know it's publishable, but you don't have a platform so you don't know how to present it to an agent and the rest of the publishing world.

It's all about building the best author platform possible so that you can sell more books.

If you've been a writer for a while, you'll know that marketing yourself can be a tough job. Much harder than the actual writing itself.

What you need is to develop your own author platform and your own unique presence in the writing world.

But you may not know where or even HOW to start building your own platform even though it's how many authors get their big break.

So it's time to start building yours so that you can market your book effectively and efficiently.

Reading, Learning and Writing

Image courtesy of Master / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
I use DreamWeaver software to create my websites (except this blog, of course) and this week I upgraded from DreamWeaver 5.5 to DreamWeaver 6. It was quite a learning curve to understand how to use the upgraded software and I had to sit and watch videos and read articles of how to use all the new features.

So I took an afternoon off from doing writing tasks and household chores to sit down and learn what I needed to know.

And this pretty much sums up being a writer because we read and learn as well as write, which all works to make us better writers.

Never Pay For Shipping On Books Again

Because we're writers, we love reading books.

The problem though, is that if you want to own a print book, you usually have to pay for shipping if you order it online, whether it's international shipping or national shipping.

But did you know that there is a company (and it's owned by Amazon) that does free shipping on any book to any country on the planet?

I recently discovered it and it's a great website with millions of books in stock and ready to ship for free.

Sometimes the cost of shipping can almost be the same as the book itself. So being able to order books online without paying any more money to get them delivered is great.
