The 'Secret Weapon' to More Affiliate Sales

I told you yesterday about how to earn more money from your writing as an affiliate marketer.

Well today I'm going to tell you the 'secret weapon' to getting more sales than you ever have before.

And that is, knowing what your market wants.

Before you even write one word to try and sell something, find out what it is that your readers want.

Using Google, or any search engine, makes it easy to find what you need to know.

You can search forums, book reviews, social media, blog comments, in fact a quick online search usually yeilds a lot of useful information from anywhere that people are giving their opinions.

Once you find out what they want, then you use this information to tell them how the product you're selling (and it can even be your own book) will provide what it is that they want.

Just get to know their pain and then offer what you're selling as the solution.

I enjoy doing affiliate marketing. Sometimes I even write my own sales page rather than sending customers to the vendors own sales page, if theirs doesn't offer what my readers are looking for. I tailor it to my own market.

I work online in different niches so I'm always trying to keep up with what people are looking for so that I can use my cunning writing skills to sell it to them.

This is why I love being a writer.

There is so many different ways I can earn money from it which helps to keep me on my toes and helps keep me financially bouyant.

And it all started with this ebook:

The Super Affiliate Handbook
By Rosalind Gardner.

How one woman earns over $500,000+ per year selling other people’s stuff online.

Straight Forward Way To More Affiliate Income

It's not always easy to earn money from writing.

In fact, most people don't know how to do it.

But like most businesses, you need more than one income stream.

That's why I use different ways to earn money from my writing and one of those is affiliate marketing.

Some people think that it's not possible to earn much money this way, but that's because they're not doing it right.

For a start, putting up banners and links on your website won't work. You may get a few sales that way but not many.

Other things you can do (and I do these too) is:

Write your own sales page for the product you want to sell
Set up a series of emails to promote a product
Use different ways to market like social media and press releases
Try the products yourself and write a review

Of course, there are other things you can do but this is a good start.

And then, there's the math of the whole thing.

For instance, if you're selling a high ticket item like a treadmill, then you could earn $600 or more for each sale. So you only need to sell one a week to make some decent extra money.

Likewise, if you're getting $60 commission, then if you can make one sale a day, it still adds up to $420 a week.

And if you're selling something else for $20 commission, then you'd need to make 3 sales a day to earn $420 a week.

Of course, you need to be selling more than one item so that you can make multiple sales a day.

And you need to be selling quality products, that is, things that your customers want to buy and that will be useful to them.

That's where your marketing skills come in. You write articles, blog posts and emails about what the product is and the benefits of using it.

When I tell people that I'm a writer, they naturally assume that the only thing I write is books.

But my writing business is much more than that because I have several streams of income from my writing.

And so should you if you want to earn as much money as you can from your writing.

Not only is affiliate marketing good for my finances but it allows me to have different things to write about. So if I get bored with one project, I just move onto another.

And the ebook below is how I got started with affiliate marketing.

Always Have Plenty To Sell

If you want to make money from your blog or website, then you need to make sales.

This means having multiple products to sell.

You won't get rich if you're only selling one thing.

So if you've written a book, write more.

And if you make money through affiliate marketing, find more products to sell.

I don't think there are many people in the world who got rich selling just one thing.

(OK so maybe a few lucky so-and-sos made a million or two or three by selling just one thing, but they are the exception, not the norm. http://www.cracked.com/article_19640_the-6-least-impressive-ways-anyone-ever-got-rich.html)

Even bands who have a one-hit-wonder, still make money by touring and appearing on TV shows and on the radio.

And I don't know about you, but as a writer, I want to write more anyway which in turn helps me make more sales.

So if you want to have more things to sell, spend time writing more books.

And in the meantime, if you want to earn more money now, start selling more affiliate products.

You can find a list of affiliate networks (and my own affiliate program) at http://www.cheritonhousepublishing.com/affiliates.html.

One of the affiliate networks listed there is VigLInk and they are by far the easiest to use. You only need to copy and paste a small piece of code onto your website or blog, and they will monetise your content with affiliate links automatically.

You can also use VigLink to find your own affiliate links to use as well, but the best thing I find about them is how they automatically place affiliate links in my online articles (some of which I wrote years ago) and I earn commission without even knowing it.

So now I always have plenty to sell whether I know it or not.

Why You Shouldn't Buy Writing Products

Have you ever bought a writing product but found it made no difference at all to how much you write and how much money you earn?

Many of us (myself included) buy lots of writing products.

And the reason for buying them is so that we can write more and earn more.

But they don't always work.

And the reason that they don't work, is because we don't learn anything from them.

You see, it's easy to have an ideal of being a busy, productive writer churning out loads of great writing every day and earning lots of money from it.

But the reality is different.

Not much writing gets done and no, or very little, money is earned.

So you buy a writing product that promises to show you how to write more and earn more and...

Nothing.

Nothing changes.

At school, we learn most things by rote. The teacher goes over and over the same things until what they wanted us to learn was what they used to lovingly be called, "drilled into our heads."

And this is the same with anything we want to learn.

It won't happen by reading a book once. Or doing a course once, but never doing it again.

Instead you have to go over and over it and do things again and again until they are "drilled into your head."

So drag out those old writing courses and books and keep going over and over them until they are throughly drilled in.

If you don't have any old ones, get some new ones. But don't waste them. Go over and over them.

And don't stop until you've earned back at least 30-times what you paid for them.

Writing products should be an investment.

So make sure you get a good return on your investment.

How I'm Earning Extra Income From My Blog

A few weeks ago I talked about a new affiliate program I'd started using called Viglink.

It's an affiliate network and is affiliated with thousands of different companies all over the world, so from just one account, I can have access to these companies, some of which I cannot affiliate to myself because they are only interested in working with big online sites that can earn thousands of dollars in affiliate commissions every month. But now I have access to them through Viglink.

And it's turning out to be quite a profitable way to make more money.

It's really easy to use and works in several different ways.

For instance, all I had to do was place a small snippet of code on my sites and if on any page, I have a URL to a website that uses affiliates but it isn't linked, Viglink will replace it with an affiliate link automatically.

And it doesn't just do this on new web pages, but on all pages on all my sites. Some of these pages have been online for years without any affiliate links on them, but now I'm getting clicks and commissions from URLs that I had no idea used affiliates.

Also there is an option called Viglink Shopping, and what this does is, if I've mentioned a product, Vignlink will not only turn it into an affiliate link if there's one available, but if the merchant runs out of stock of the item, or stops selling it, Viglink will automatically link it to a different merchant. And all without me doing a thing.

There is also a handy app called Viglink Anywhere that I've installed on my browser's toolbar. And anytime I visit a site that is selling a product, I can click on "Anywhere" and it will not only tell me if there is an affiliate link for the product but will also provide a link as well as a shortened version so that I can use it anywhere (as the name suggests), even on social media.

It's so handy to be able to see in an instant whether or not a product has an affiliate program and get a link immediately.

It really doesn't get much easier than that.

If you're interested in using Viglink on your own website or blog, you can click on the link on the affiliate page of my Cheriton House Publishing website where you'll also a list of nine other affiliate programs you can join for free.

Earning extra money without doing any extra work is always a good thing 😀

What Many Are Doing to Earn More Money From Their Writing - And It's Easy

Recently I've been using social media, blog posts and articles to help people earn more money from their writing.

But, it only works for those who are serious about wanting to write more and earn more and not for those who like to read about increasing their writing income but never do anything about it.

And it's so simple that even I didn't realise it would work to the extent that it has or the number of people would help.

You see, when I first started writing, I studied lots of different courses about creating websites and freelance writing, book writing, copywriting and much more.

In fact, I still haven't finished learning because it's an ongoing process because the writing and publishing industry changes all the time.

But I've always considered it really, extremely important to know as much as I can about writing and earning money so that I can work and earn to my full potential.

So I've been promoting video courses on Udemy (which weren't around when I was learning the basics) because so many people, like me, prefer to learn in a structured way instead of reading a lot of stuff and then trying to make it work.

I much prefer to be actually taught step-by-step how to do something.

And I think this is why Udemy courses are so popular.

Not only do they teach in a structured, easy way, but there are so many to choose from that whatever you need to learn, there's a course just for you.

And many of them are free.

Just a quick search of the site turned up:

  • Make Money from Home: How to Build an Online Business
  • How To Make a Beautiful WordPress Website Without Coding!
  • Copywriting that sells for ambitious people
  • Write, Publish, Market, and Make Money with Your Own Book
  • My Favorite Things- Fun and Easy Writing Course for kids

And one of their most popular courses:

The Complete Freelance Writing Online Course: Beginner to Pro
Learn How to Get Paid to Write Online, Make Good Money, and Work From Anywhere.
http://bit.ly/2ELPE0x

So if you want to know more about writing, book writing, copywriting, blogging, freelance writing, affiliate marketing, creating websites/blogs, or anything else, I can almost guarantee that there is a course to cover it.

Take a look at some of their free courses and see what you think.

Choosing Quality Over Quantity

A few weeks ago I bought a pack of 20 pencils for only $2. And because I do most of my writing by hand, and often with pencils, I thought I'd bagged myself a real bargain. Not only did I have so many pencils for not much money, but they even had erasers on the end. Woot! Woot!

But guess what?

They all broke. As soon as I tried to sharpen them, the lead broke. AND the erasers all fell off as soon as I tried to use them.

Humph!

So I went to a stationery shop and bought individual pencils that cost over a dollar each. Yeouch!

But guess what?

I'm still using them, and they don't break, and the lead lasts a long time in between sharpenings. They don't have erasers though, but it doesn't matter because the last lot were useless.

And that got me thinking about everything that I buy and that I produce.

You've probably heard it before that quality is better than quantity, meaning that it's better to have a few quality products than a lot of cheap products.

And this applies to everything - houses, clothes, jobs (better to have a high-paying career that you love rather than work for low pay), and tools of the trade (including pencils).

It all comes down to cost per use, as in it's better to have a $20 t-shirt that you can wear 50 times than a $5 t-shirt that you can only wear a few times before it goes baggy and wears out. Not only does it equate to a smaller cost-per-use, but it looks better because it doesn't deteriorate as quickly.

This is why I usually (except for the odd pencil slip up) choose quality products, and this includes ebooks and courses that I buy to help me earn more money from my writing. I always make sure that they're made by someone who knows what they're talking about (as opposed to unknown 'authors' who write about how to earn a million writing books when I can't find even one that they've written), even if it costs me more money.

I also use everything I buy over and over again because if I buy something to help me write more and earn more but I don't use it, then that is a complete waste of money. But if I use it over and over until I can easily follow what it says, and make more money as well, then it was more than worth the purchase. If I buy an ebook or a writing course, I expect it to more than pay for itself because it's an investment, not a purchase.

It's the same with books. If I buy a great book full of really good information, I'll re-read it over and over again, and even make lots of notes and try out the advice it's giving. On the other hand, I get rid of books that aren't really useful, because I'd rather own a few great books than a lot of useless books.

When it comes to making purchases, it's no good penny-pinching to buy a lot of poor quality or useless products.

It's far better IMHO to always choose to have fewer but higher quality products.

And more importantly, use them.

Don't buy what you don't need and get the most out of everything you own.

Write It And Ship It

I was talking to someone a few weeks ago and she was showing me some of her work.

She's really good at writing and drawing and I told her that she should publish graphic novels because her drawings were really good and her stories were incredibly creative and intriguing.

I loved her work.

But she told me that she's too much of a perfectionist to publish any of her work yet, but once she gets it perfect, she'll publish it.

I suggested that she start a free blog and upload some of her artwork to it so that people can see her stuff and she can start a following so that by the time she publishes her first novel, she'll have readers waiting to buy it.

But she told me again that her work isn't yet perfect enough so not ready for the public to see it.

It made me almost sad to see her throwing away such a great opportunity while she waits for something that doesn't exist (perfection) to arrive.

There is a saying in the writing world that, I think, was started by Steve Jobs who said "Real Artists Ship." In this case, shipping means publishing. Putting it out in public where people can see it and criticise it (and they usually do).

It seems that many a creative type of person has a fear of shipping. A fear of someone looking at their work and saying they don't like it.

Well, our work isn't for everyone. Only for those who do like it or who find it useful.

So ignore the rest and when you're writing is good enough, ship it.

You Can't Polish a Turd

That's a quote from the Stephen Kind novel and movie, "Christine."

In the movie, a garage owner watches a young guy trying to fix up an old car (called Christine) that looks too beat-up and rusty for anyone to fix.

He watches the kid fitting new wiper blades over a broken windscreen, shakes his head, and says to his friend, "You can't polish a turd."

I love that line.

And in another way, it applies to selling.

If no one wants what you're selling then you may as well be trying to sell them a turd, because they won't want it no matter how much you polish it with your intriguing content and clever marketing.

Instead, you need to find a market, find out what they want, and provide it for them.

You could write an ebook or a course that can help them, or find a suitable affiliate product.

Then let them know how much the product will benefit them and everything they have to gain by owning it.

In other words, give them what they want.

Don't try and sell them what they don't want.

It will be like trying to sell them a polished turd.

They just won't be interested. No matter how presentable you make it look.

My New Year Writing Goals

It's nearly 2018 and I've been busying making lots of goals for next year because I want my writing success in 2018 to be far greater than 2017 (not that it was bad this year, but I always want more).

Part of my plan is to write and publish more books in the writing niche.

I'm also going to have monthly topics for my books, emails and websites.

This month's has mostly been about affiliate marketing (I started my goals early). January will be all about self publishing and February is about finding motivation and inspiration to write more.

All my chosen topics for 2018 are all designed to help you write more and earn more from your writing.

It's important to not only be able to write and earn more, but to absolutely love what you do.

To wake up every morning, excited to start writing and go to bed at night feeling great about all you've achieved.

And this is how being an affiliate marketer can help.

You only need to spend 10 or 15 minutes a day writing a blog post that contains an affiliate link and then get back to book writing.

Or you can set up affiliate websites.

Choose a niche, find products (or just one product) to promote, and write blog posts, emails, sales copy, marketing articles, and you can even do video and podcasts if you want to.

And if you're looking for products and ideas, VigLink has thousands of products and can automatically change links already on your site to affiliate links.

This makes it easy because it does the heavy work for you so that you can just keep on writing.

$700/Month Writing Blog Posts

I was reading an article recently about a freelance writer who earns over $700/month writing blog posts for a client.

She writes 5 blog posts a week and charges $35 for each one.

You can read the article at https://inkwelleditorial.com/become-a-six-figure-freelance-writer

Anyway, the point of this is why would her client pay so much for short blog posts?

And the answer is because they know that they can earn much more than this from them.

All blog posts, emails and online articles have 2 "jobs."

They provide a tip or another piece of useful information, and they make a sale or get the reader to perform another kind of CTA, Call To Action.

There are many smart writers who know how to earn money from everything they write and publish online. While many others earn nothing.

So if you're not earning an average of $35 from each piece of your online content, then ask why not?

Then look into how to do it.

There's no point writing lots of online articles and blog posts if you're not earning from them.

Unless of course, you enjoying writing just for the sake of it. In which case, ignore what I'm telling you.

But if you want to earn more money from your online content, this is something I talk about in-depth in my best selling ebook, Living The Laptop Lifestyle: How To Start & Grow A Profitable Online Business So You Can Quit Your Job.

And it's not too late to download your own copy and make 2018 your best writing year ever.

There is an ebook that your website visitors will want.

It will get downloaded hundreds of times a month.

And this ebook can make you a lot of money.

What ebook is this?

It's a marketing ebook.

It's a short report that you can write in just 2 hours.

You fill it with great content that's centred around a book or other product you're selling.

The content of this short ebook is so entertaining and so compelling that your readers are eager to click on the link at the end and make a purchase.

This 2-hour short report is what you give away as a free download.

You also allow others to give it away too.

I've written many of these short reports and they really are good at helping drive sales.

And before I know it, I have thousands of copies being downloaded all over the world.

2 Hour Short Report Writing is a free bonus ebook that I give away to anyone who buys my 7 Day Ebook Writing and Publishing System at http://cheritonhousepublishing.com/books/7day.html.

Don't Give It All Away

We all love a freebie.

It's great when you get an email with a link to a free download.

Or you visit a website full of loads of free offers.

And it's also good if you can find a few free things to offer your website visitors and email subscribers.

Just make sure that you don't give away too much. Otherwise your website visitors and email subscribers will come to expect it.

They'll think that everything you offer them is free.

This will make them not only reluctant to pay you money for something, but it can sometimes make them hostile.

I fell for this myself years ago when I was just getting started writing online.

I searched high and low for freebies I could give away on my website to attract more visitors.

But all it attracted was freebie-seekers.

I thought I was doing well getting so much traffic to my site and hundreds of people signing up for my emails.

But I wasn't making much money.

So I removed most of the free stuff and started offering products for sale.

And strangely enough, I found that people valued products they paid for much higher than the free stuff.

And many became repeat customers.

And speaking of freebies (which I don't do often), here's a link to a free 30-day planner to help you start the New Year your most productive and the most profitable.

Cheap Products Gets You Cheap Customers

Writing articles and other content can be a really profitable way to earn money from your writing.

But you really have to be careful about what you're selling.

And this can also apply to how you price your own books.

And that is, if you keep selling cheap products, you'll end up with cheap customers.

This doesn't mean your customers will be penny-pinchers, but rather, they'll come to only expect cheap prices from you.

So when you raise your prices or try to offer them something that is expensive, they won't be interested.

That's because you've "trained" them to only buy cheap things from you.

And because it takes just as much time and effort to sell both high and low priced products, only getting a few dollars for each sale can end up being a waste of time.

So give your customers what they need, instead of offering them cheap products.

When You Gotta Market Your Products

If you're making money as an online writer and affiliate marketer, you have to keep looking for quality products to promote.

Some are low-cost products while some are what are known as high ticket items.

But it doesn't matter if what you're selling costs a few dollars or a few hundred dollars, it all needs the same amount of marketing.

No one is going to buy anything unless it benefits them in some way.

This is where being a great marketer comes in.

No matter how much or how little the price is, if your customers don't want it, you can't sell it.

This is why it can make sense to sell high-quality, higher priced products.

That way you earn more money for each sale, and your customers get a better product.

Naturally, you won't sell as many, but your commission/royalties will be more.

You can learn more about finding the right products to sell at the Super Tips website.

Always Do This

I've been talking recently about affiliate marketing as being a good way to earn money from your writing.

Selling your own books is even better.

But however you choose to earn money as a writer, there's one thing that you must always be doing.

And that is growing your email list.

Having products to sell and plenty of online content to promote it is great.

But it won't help much if no-one sees it.

There are several ways you can promote your work, but the best way is through email.

Customers aren't going to seek you out.

It's you that has to stay in touch with them.

You need to let them know what you're selling and how it can help them.

And the bigger your list, the better.

So always be promoting yourself and your work to get more subscribers.

And then stay in touch with them often.

Send them lots of useful tips and information and give them links to all your promotional content.

Sent out emails every week, or preferably, every day.

Become the favourite person in their inbox.

The Guaranteed Way To Earn Money As An Affiliate Marketer

Making money as an affiliate marketer isn't difficult (it all depends on what you're promoting, how you're promoting it, and who you're promoting it to).

It can also be done for free.

All it takes is time.

Time to write up all your online content, your emails, and anything else you'll be writing and using to drive sales.

And there's also something else you have to do.

Or rather, it's something that you should NOT do.

This is the mistake that many writers make when they try and earn money as an affiliate marketer.

Doing this can almost guarantee to kill sales.

But not doing it is guaranteed to help you make sales.

So what is it that I'm talking about?

Trying to sell too many things at once.

Offering multiple products at once often confuses people.

And promoting too many things on your website looks cheap and "salesy."

Instead, I always find it better to just pick one product to sell, and then promote the hell out of it.

We're coming to the New Year now, so if you want to make more money as an affiliate marketer, see if you can make 2018 your highest earning year yet.

Make a plan and stick to it.

How I Started Making Money Online

I loved it when making money online from my writing became possible, because, before that, it was almost impossible.

The internet made it so easy - and so fast.

One of the ways I first started earning money online was with affiliate marketing through Click Bank.

(After a few years, I stopped marketing for them because they changed their Ts & Cs for affiliates and actually threatened to take money from affiliates if they didn't make enough sales. Since then they have revised their payment system and now I get paid every 2 weeks with no threat of deductions.)

At first I did it by simply putting banners on my website.

And while that made me some money, I soon realised that there was much more to affiliate marketing than this, with some affiliates earning six-figure incomes.

It took quite a bit of researching and practice, but eventually I discovered how to do it properly.

Now it’s much easier to make money with affiliate marketing because there is so much more information around.

There’s even a website called Super Tips (http://ruthiswriting.com/links/supertips.html) that not only has a free ClickBank forum, they have some really useful products like their Affiliate Shield software (http://ruthiswriting.com/links/affiliateshield.html) that can do several things, including changing affiliate links so that they bypass the product's sales page and go straight to the payment page, so that you can create your own, better sales page.

You only have to look at forums and products like these to see how much help there is now to earn money online from affiliate sales.

Which is how I first began earning money from my writing.

And I still do it today.

Spending Money To Make Money

A couple of weeks ago, I made an online purchase.

It was a huge purchase that cost me $2,000.

Why did I spend so much?

Because I plan to use what I bought to help me earn more money.

So it wasn't so much a purchase, as an investment.

What I bought was a huge package of marketing materials - DVDs, Audios, and books.

I haven't received them yet because they're physical products and are being shipped to me here in Australia from the USA.

Over the years, I've bought literally dozens (probably hundreds) of products about writing and marketing, but I've never paid so much before.

But there are many people who baulk at paying anything for what they think will help them write more and earn more.

They only want things that are free (or really REALLY cheap).

Then they wonder why they don't make any money.

But I've decided to go big or go home.

I'm aiming higher with what I buy, what I create, and how much money I make.

And I started big with the $2,000 marketing bundle.

If you feel the same way, make the switch.

Invest in whatever it is that will help you move your writing business forward.

And then get going.

Don't let penny-pinching hold you back any longer.

The Incredibly Simple Way I've Automated Affiliate Marketing

VigLink banner I discovered something recently that is a really simple way to earn money from a blog.

It’s called VigLink.

This is a company that is affiliated to hundreds of other companies, and when you copy and paste a small piece of script onto your blog, VigLink will automatically change words in your blog posts to affiliate links or PPC links so that you can earn money without having to do anything else.

The way it works is like this:

You sign up for an account at VigLink.

They supply a small piece of script for your blog/website.

Then if you mention a product, (say, eBay, for instance), it will automatically become an affiliate link.

And if you give a specific URL to a product, it will instantly be turned into an affiliate link if it is associated with one of the companies that they are affiliated with.

And that’s all there is to it.

VigLink is affiliated with some really top companies, many won’t even allow affiliates with small blogs.

But through VigLink you can gain access to all them all using just one account.

However, there is one thing you need to be aware of.

VigLink is only looking for blogs and websites with plenty of traffic and quality content that’s updated regularly.

So they only approve sites manually.

But once you have your account set up and your site’s been approved, all you have to do is keep writing and posting and let VigLink take care of your affiliate and PPC links.

So if you’re looking for a quick and extremely simple way to make more money from your blog, give VigLink a try.

I’m already using it myself on some of my websites.
